In Jan 2020, we were joined by the amazing singer Jo Harrop, and Eimear McGeown on Flute and Pennywhistle, when we re-created the special Mancini magic!
Here’s what the Evening Standard had to say:
Jo Harrop is gradually making a name in jazz circles. It is just that she tackles material originally done by such luminaries as Anita O’Day, June Christy, and Amy Winehouse with consummate ease. Yesterday at the Pizza Express club the tunes and songbook of Henry Mancini was given a thorough going over by the Denmark Street Big Band, on this occasion inspirationally driven by drummer Neil Burton (why do we not hear him more often?). The searing and funky Theme from The Streets of San Francisco and a razor sharp version by Ms Harrop of the Peter Gunn theme were perfect foils to Dreamsville, Shadow of Your Smile and more familiar fayre. And how about special guest Eimear McGeown on flute and tin whistle stunning the audience into silence. But this is what you get with this exemplary band - a cracking way to start a new musical year.
